Magpie#49

Willow's Trio of Snow Maidens is her delightful prompt this week

FALSE STARTS

Three Sisters (they’re straight out of Chekov!)
went forth in long coats and the wreck of
their once handsome bonnets.
(I've abandoned my sonnet
and quite lost the point of this heck of . . .

Er. . . er . .  a wonderful limerick?)

“No, no, Doctor.  Something's gone seriously wrong with that one!    No ‘AWESOMES’ for you this week.”

  6. An heroic failure! But an awesomely brave attempt to do something different with the prompt.

  8. I refuse to use the word 'awesome'. It has been so thoroughly abused for so long that even in appropriate circumstances it sounds ridiculous.

To your attempt I say, instead....ADMIRABLE.

  9. I see Ada trying to steal MY line - I'm normally the short one on the end.

    Interesting rhyming!

  10. Yes, Chekhov and the play and the dreary Russian winter do come to mind with this little triad. I like the way their hats just sort of sit on top like cherries on a sundae. Too bad there aren't more rhymes to Chekov, you could have finished your sonnet--or at least limerick--maybe Tolstoy???

  14. I really enjoyed your partial poem. The Checkov reference was wonderful, and then to rhyme it with "wreck of"--you're reminding me now of the late, great Ogden Nash.

  15. Yes but comical and it does remind of Chekov! And your last great stretch with "heck of...."

    close to awesome

  16. Chekov, perfect! I'd say a 'heck of' awesome to you, and a 'peck of' fun, too.

Thank you for stopping by. To make life easier for you I have turned off the new indecipherable and time-wasting verification words. Would you care to "feedback" to Blogger and complain about them, like I did?
